Itachi Uchiha’s Strongest Jutsus

We all know about Itachi Uchiha. He’s the prodigy of the Uchiha Clan, and arguably one of the most complex characters in the Naruto series. After witnessing the horrors of the Third Shinobi War Itachi turned into pacifist. However reluctant to battle Itachi understands the need to be strong in order to protect the ones he loves, and constantly received the highest marks in the Ninja Academy. Ultimately his loyalties lied with his brother Sasuke Uchiha and the Hidden Leaf village, betraying his very clan to keep them safe.

Being a member of the Uchiha Clan, Itachi was already a superior ninja, but even among the Uchiha he was considered a genius. As such Itachi is known throughout the ninja world for his remarkable strength, and accomplishments. He is able to hold his own among the Legendary Sannin and even defeated Lord Orochimaru with ease. With Obito’s help he was able to wipe out the entire Uchiha clan in a single night. Finally he was able to take out Kakashi Hatake (a senior Jonin possessing the sharingan, and eventual 6th Hokage) in mere seconds and left him bedridden in the hospital for weeks.

Needless to say, Itachi Uchiha boasted some remarkably devastating Jutsus. I’ve compiled the list to his Top 5, although there are certainly more I just couldn’t add all of them on here.

5. Clone Great Explosion Technique

One of the very first Jutsu Itachi performs in his official debut in the Naruto series. A perfect example of his ability to plan ahead and misdirect even the strongest opponents. This Jutsu enhances the already B-rank Shadow Clone technique. As the name suggest the Itachi creates a shadow clone which can be denoted from afar at the most opportune time. The advantages to this jutsu is that the opponent expects to fight in close range taijutsu not knowing that he or she is fighting a clone. Once the clone gets in range Itachi then detonates it delivering a deadly explosion.

This Jutsu ranks as an A class technique. While most ninja with moderate ninjutsu capabilities could master, it is especially lethal when combined with Itachi’s fighting style.

4. Amaterasu

The most advance fire release jutsu known to the shinobi world. It can only be used by a very select few who have unlocked the Mangekyo Sharingan, currently Itachi, Sasuke, and Indra are the only known users.

Amaterasu’s literal translation is “Heavenly Illumination”, and with good reason. It’s a visual jutsu which unleashes inextinguishable black flames on its target. It is a representation of the “Material world and Light”, the antipode of Itachi’s Tsukuyomi. The flames can burn for up to seven days and seven nights until there is nothing left but ash. Itachi used this jutsu to burn fire itself, the fire from Sasuke’s Great Fireball Technique. Aside from its amazing offensive capabilities, the Amaterasu can also be used defensively by casting the Amaterasu flames around him to block any incoming attacks or opponents.

Being a Dojutsu from the Mangekyo Sharingan does bring along some disadvantages however. This jutsu places great strain on the users eye, in many cases even to the point of bleeding. And like all Mangekyo Sharingan abilities overuse will lead to blindness as exhibited by Sasuke and Itachi.

3. Itachi's Susanoo

Since Itachi has awakened and possesses both of his Mangekyo Sharingan he has the ability to bring forth his Susanoo. A giant guardian deity composed of chakra with various defensive and offensive capabilities. In its more advanced state the Susanno’s armor can block all but the most powerful attacks, while allowing Itachi’s to pass through. 

Unlike other Susanoos Itachi’s possesses two unique and powerful weapons. In its right hand the Susanoo wields the “Sword of Totsuka”. This sword can seal anyone it touches into a drunken genjutsu state for all eternity without the need to perform a sealing jutsu. In it’s left hand he wields the “Yata Mirror” which changes chakra nature to completely negate any nature based chakra attack. This combination of weapons had effectively made Itachi invincible.

2. Yasaka Magatama

The Yasaka Magatama is an exclusive technique only available to the few individuals who have awakened their Mangekyo Sharingan and are adept at using their Susanoo. Itachi himself stated that this jutsu was his strongest long range jutsu in his fight against the reincarnated Nagato. To activate Yasaka Magatama Itachi must first summon his Susanoo. The Susanoo then either produces one or multiple Magatama from its hand. With the Magatama resembling and acting like shuriken composed of chakra. Itachi can make the Magatama as big or as small as he needs to depending on the situations, but even the small one’s are devastating. The Susanoo then throws the Magatama, over a large distance towards its intended target, and it explodes on impact.

1. Tsukuyomi

A visual genjutsu surpassed only by Shisui Uchiha’s Kotoamatsukami (Kotoamatsukami while being more powerful takes up to 10 years to recharge, making the Tsukuyomi more useful). It is said to represent the “Spirit world and Darkness”. Madara used a variation of this jutsu (Eternal Tsukuyomi) in his ‘Eye of the Moon’ plan to cast a genjutsu on the entire world. Itachi activates this jutsu with his left Mangekyo Sharingan and requires direct eye contact. Once activated Itachi puts his opponents in a world in which he has complete control. Itachi’s mastery of this genjutsu is so great that he can even alter the perception of time. The effects are devastating, and Itachi’s Tsukuyomi left even Kakashi Hatake hospitalized for several weeks.
