All New Saiyan Transformations in Dragonball Super
ALL NEW SAIYAN TRANSFORMATIONS IN DRAGONBALL SUPER
Super has been out for 4 years now, and you know what that means. An unGodly amount of new Saiyan transformations in Dragonball Super to go over! Luckily for you we’ve broken them down chronologically, got into the nitty-gritty details of how they work, and included some bitchin’ pictures. Be warned Akira Toriyama is a prolific writer so while this list is currently up to date we expect a new Saiyan transformation in the upcoming seasons. Super Saiyan God
The Saiyan transformation in Dragon Ball Super that kicked off the series. First introduced in Battle of Gods, and then later retold in the first arc of Dragon Ball Super. This transformation is vastly different from any of the previous transformations in the series. Like the name implies it grants whoever achieves the transformation godly ki. In this form Goku was able to surpass all other Super Saiyan transformation including Super Saiyan 3.
There are draw backs however, it requires 6 righteous saiyans to preform a lengthy ritual. There is also a short time limit, after which the form disappears. This greatly limits this forms utility in a drawn out battle where the enemy is unlikely to allow the user to perform the ritual.
However later on Vegeta showcases that he can also turn into the super saiyan god mode too.
Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan
Or most commonly known by fans as Super Saiyan Blue, is the step above Super Saiyan God. This form, as described by Goku is when a “Saiyan with the power of a Super Saiyan God further transforms himself into a Super Saiyan”
This transformation completely nullifies the Super Saiyan God drawbacks and magnifies its strengths. There is no ritual to perform and no time constraints. In addition power, speed, strength are all increased above the Super Saiyan God base form.
In this form the user also exhibit calm of mind and extreme Ki control. This means that unlike previous Saiyan transformations there is no Ki leakage. Vegeta and Goku are able to use these abilities to retain more Ki and not waste any on simply maintaining the form.
Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken Combination
While a not a transformation in and of itself this combination definitely merits mentioning. Thanks to the precise Ki control and calm mind attributes of Super Saiyan Blue, Goku can apply the Kaio-ken technique to further multiply his fighting prowess.
As stated by Old Kai this combination only works with Super Saiyan Blue as the intense emotional turmoil caused by other Super Saiyan Transformations would not allow the precise Ki control needed to survive the technique.
There are disadvantages however. Goku developed temporary “Delayed Onset Ki Disorder” a few days after using this technique. He was unable to control his Ki to the point that he couldn’t even fly well. King Kai warns that reckless overuse could render him unable to fight again.
Super Saiyan Rage
This is an enhancement to the Super Saiyan 2 form is gained from extreme rage. Future Trunks attains this transformation when fighting Goku Black and Zamasu. The power up from this transformation allows Future Trunks to hold his own against Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black and Future Zamasu at the same time. When Future Trunks takes on this form he first becomes a Super Saiyan 2, his eyes then go blank before a blue aura overtakes him and his muscles revert to their normal size, completing the transformation.
While fighting against Fused Zamasu this transformation was even able to accept the energy of mankind gaining another massive power boost. In this state he was able to destroy Fused Zamasu’s body with ease.
Ultra Instinct
The latest and by far the strongest of all the Saiyan transformations in Dragonball Super is ultra instinct. The power increase is so great even Beerus recognizes it as being superior to his own. Aside from the physical power up, its most defining trait is its control over Autonomous Ultra Instinct. As the name implies Autonomous Ultra instinct makes all moves, defensive and offensive, automatic.
Its limitations lie almost in parallel with the Kaio-ken technique, only extremely magnified. The user can only sustain the sheer power of the form for a minute or so before their body breaks down. In Goku’s case after the time limit blood ruptures across the users body and dark Ki electricity shocks the user.
